KAAC halts sand supply to Dimapur

Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) has ordered suspension of river bed mining and halted all movement and transportation of sand carrying trucks to Dimapur with effect from August 6. In an official order, KAAC principal secretary said river bed mining during monsoon season has resulted in large scale erosion in the river banks and caused damage to the rural roads. When contacted, association president Kang Jang Terang told this correspondent “We have agreed with the decision of the authority”. He also opined that regular movement of trucks was not advisable during COVID-19 pandemic.
