Karbi Employees’ Association (KEA), central committee of West Karbi Anglong, Hamren has appealed to the District Registrar of Citizen Registration to prepare all the voter lists and National Register of Citizen’s final draft list in English language.

The association in their appeal said that the voter list is prepared under the provision of Representation of the People Act, 1951 and NRC under the provision of Citizenship Act and Rules. “These are recognized as an authentic document as a citizen of India, but it was published in Assamese with lots of spelling mistake and error”, KEA said.

KEA general secretary, Borsing Teron said that in view of overwhelming educational evolution of the people living in Schedule area, “English is preferable script to write correct spelling instead of Assamese”.

Teron also said that people of Karbi Anglong have been facing lots of difficulties in detecting their names as the youth in the district neither read nor write Assamese language.

“There were innumerable mistakes of name, parent’s name, and address in voter list as well in NRC final draft list published in Assamese, and in several instances name of person and surname has been erroneously entered”, Teron said.
