Kekhrie Yhoshü is Southern Angami wrestling champion

24-year-old Kekhrie Yhoshü emerged as the champion of the 58th Wrestling Meet 2020 of the Southern Angami Sports Association (SASA) held here at Khuochiezhie, Kohima Local Ground on Wednesday.

Standing 5:11 feet tall and weighing 90 KG, the Kigwema village champion Yhoshü overpowered Phesama champion Neithongulie Kuotsu in two straight bouts in the final match to take the Southern Angami wrestling title. The champion walked home with a cash prize of Rs. 80,000, while the runners up Kuotsu with Rs. 60,000.

While Viswema champ Kevime Vitsu stood in the third position and received Rs 40,000, followed by Viswema runners- up Kelengol Kikhi in the fourth position with Rs. 20,000.

Advisor for Youth Resources & Sports, Er. Zale Neikha graced the inaugural session as special guest, presidential address by SASA president Ruokuovikho Chale, oath taking by Keneilel Kevin Rote.  

A total of 56 wrestlers took part in the senior category during the occasion.

On the second day, 35 wrestlers for U-16 junior category will vie for the title starting from 10 a.m. onwards. 

The closing function on Thursday will be graced by Managing Director, KOHIMAS Hospital Dr. Tseilhoutuo Rhütso.
