Kerber wins Wimbledon title

Angelique Kerber claimed her first Wimbledon title on Saturday with a nerveless 6-3, 6-3 win over the seven-time champion Serena Williams.
Having not lost at Wimbledon since 2014, Williams went into the match as the heavy favourite, but she produced an error-strewn performance against the durable Kerber.
Even the watching Duchess of Sussex, who was joined by Tiger Woods and Lewis Hamilton, could not inspire Williams to victory.
Kerber and Williams exchanged breaks in the early stages of the match before Kerber went on a run of five straight games to take the opening set and forge ahead in the second.
Kerber, whose serve is so often a liability, maintained her high level and having broken Williams for 4-2 kept her nerve to post a straight-sets win.
The title was secured when Williams pushed a backhand into the net, after which she crossed the net to embrace the new champion.
Kerber now has three grand-slam titles to her name after winning the Australian Open and US Open in 2016.
