Advisor tourism and art & culture, H. Khehovi, has called upon the Village Development Boards (VDBs) to use development funds judiciously.
Addressing the 39th annual general conference of Zunheboto District Village Development Boards Association (ZDVDBA) on May 9 at District VDB Hall Zunheboto, Khehovi said only errant government officials are not considered corrupt but also those leaders, at the village level, who does not use development funds, allotted to the village, accordingly and judiciously.
The advisor said the development of a particular village vastly depends on the VDBs as the VDB secretaries, being a government agent, are entrusted to implement developmental funds in the village.
Khehovi also emphasised on cleanliness and urged the village leaders to keep their villages clean. He also asked them to be hospitable and maintain cordial relations with neighbours. Stressing on the importance of educating the people living in rural areas, Khehovi said it was imperative of those living in urban areas to love and express concern for their native places.
He lamented the eradication of the rich culture and traditions due to immigration of people from villages to urban areas in large number. Khehovi also said there was a need to do away with the misconception that life was easy in urban areas.
At the programme a new team of office bearers were elected. The programme was chaired by ZDVDBA vice president, Vikato; welcome address was delivered by ZDVDBA joint secretary, Kaiho and vote of thanks by Husheto.
