Kikon inaugurates traditional ‘Chumpo’

Advisor IT, Science and Technology, MmhonlumoKikon on Saturday inaugurated the symbolic traditional “Chumpo” and unveiled the plaque at Wokha village. 

Speaking on the occasion as special guest, Kikon pointed out that “our culture is our identity” and that Chumpo has become an integral part of every village, as it was considered the first and the biggest institution in the olden days.

He reminded the importance and significance of preserving one’s culture and traditional practiced by the forefathers which has become our identity. Kikon further applauded the Wokha village people for identifying the olden Chumpo site after archaeological excavation was carried out in the heart of the village and constructing a model signifying the old Chumpo. 

Earlier, guest of honour, additional secretary to government of Nagaland, NchumbemoLotha said “one could learn and gain more knowledge” and further expressed the importance of preserving one’s culture and traditions.  Keynote address was delivered by convenor heritage committee, LibemoKithan and short speeches were delivered by Dr.Chumben Murry, MLA, Y. M. Humtsoe,  PDA member and S. YanphamoTungoe, chairman, Wokha village council. 

The Chumpo was dedicated by WVPC, Rev. O. ThungbenKikon and Nchumbemo (Shipu) Erui& friends rendered the Chumpo dedication song. EramoYitssomo , B. Khel narrated the significance and how the Chumpo was built by their forefathers. The entourage accompanied by Dr.Chumben Murry MLA and a host of dignitaries also visited the Village heritage site at the village.
