Amidst the spike of COVID-19 cases in the state capital, Association of Kohima Municipal Wards Panchayat (AKMWP) has directed all the citizens under Kohima Municipality to compulsorily wear face mask in public areas from November 9 onwards.

The instruction was issued by AKMWP President Neibulie Kiewhuo in a letter addressed to all the wards chairmen under Kohima Municipality on Friday.

The association in a letter stated that COVID-19 positive cases are increasing day by day and even the death toll is rising in Nagaland. “The Government of Nagaland is doing its best, however, we cannot depend solely on our government to protect us, but a time has come for all of us to protect ourselves and our citizens” stated the letter.

In this regard, the association held an emergency meeting on November 5 at the residence of its president and decided to follow some certain regulations in all the wards.

The general public moving in and around Kohima Municipality have been directed to compulsorily wear face mask starting from November 9 onwards until further directions. The defaulters found moving around without face mask will have their names listed and will be compelled to buy face mask on the spot from the ward Covid committee on duty at Rs. 30/- per mask.

The ID card of the ward Covid committee on duty shall be issued by the administrator, KMC.

The association have instructed all the wards to select volunteers including some senior leaders of their respective wards to enforce the safety measures called by AKMWP on the request of the KMC.
