Kohima Eagles FC overpowered Rustic Boys FC Thizama 2-1 in the first quarterfinal match of the ongoing 25th Classic Cup 2019 played here at Kohima local ground on Friday.

In the match, Rustic Boys FC made off a better start to break the deadlock in the 5th minute. Midfielder Athihrü headed the ball into the penalty area from a crossing to find Jangminlal who controlled the ball and slotted the ball home for Rustic Boys.

Kohima Eagles lacked the creativity to put pressure against the opponent team. The best chance came from their winger Sinlo Kath who hit the crossbar in the first half.

Thereafter, Kohima Eagles FC coach made the technical change bringing forward Kumzuk Ao in place of a midfielder Muleyi in the 31st minute of the game. The change paid the reward as Kumzuk provided the much needed agility and pace for Kohima Eagles in front. It took him four minutes to equalise the score for Kohima Eagles from a long range kick.

The second half saw Kohima Eagles dominating the match but failed to convert the opportunities into goals. Shurhosul Zhotso came close however; his shot hit the woodwork in the 50th minute.

Kekhrieletuo Tsira, the captain of Kohima also missed a sitter when he came one on one with the keeper but shoot the ball directly to the keeper.

Rustic Boys FC did what was best for them defending the scoreline as the match ended in a 1-1 draw in the 80th minute stipulated time.

During the 15th minute extra time, another substitute Vilhoubeituo Yhome came to rescue the team scoring from a defensive blunder in the 90th minute to end the game in favour of Kohima Eagles FC and send the team to the semi-finals for the second time.
