Kohima hosts ‘Kala Utsav’

District level “Kala Utsav” an initiative of Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India to promote arts in education, by nurturing and showcasing the artistic talent of school students, in the country was held at DC Conference Hall, Kohima on October 14. 

Briefing on the Kala Utsav, deputy mission director SMA Samagra Shiksha, Timothy Thong, said that Kala Utsav was an initiative of the ministry of Human Resources Development to promote arts in education by nurturing and showcasing the artistic talent of school students at the secondary stage. 

Thong said that work was taken up by the erstwhile programme RMSA and has been carried forward by Samagra Shiksha. 

He informed that the Ministry has also started Rangotsav, a festival aimed at promoting experimental learning and also making learning joyful experience by using arts in education including role play competition, band competition, music teacher’s competition and folk dance competition. 

He said that the ultimate goal of the competition was to select the best talents in all the four categories to compete with the students from the rest of India at the National level Kala Utsav.

Exhorting the students, DEO, Kohima Dojü Khate said that many singers, dancers, painters etc. were successful because of their hard work and dedication, and encouraged the students participating in the various categories of competitions to compete with the rest of the world with their gifted talents. 

DC Kohima, Gregory Thejawelie congratulated the participants from all the seven Government Higher Secondary Schools and encouraged the students to exhibit their talents through this platform. 

He also gave away the prize to the winners of various competitions. 

In dance solo competition, the first position was bagged by Povidra, GHS Zhadima, painting competition was won by Kevichizo, GHS Kigwema, vocal music solo competition by Senyamo kath, GHS Kandinu and instrumental music by Puso Swuro, TMGHSS.

The panel of judges were musicians -Senti Semy and Dziesekhrienuo Keretsü. 

The programme was organized by District Mission Authority Samagra Shiksha Kohima.
