In view of the threat of Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the Konyak Union (KU) Wednesday declared “indefinite emergency” within Mon district.

On sealing of international border, Konyak Union through its media cell said the move should be considered as a “preventive act” that would shield Konyak brothers of Myanmar from Covid-19 pandemic.

The apex body asserted that the present stance was “purely temporary” and therefore “such situation should not be taken otherwise.” Further, restricting social gathering during Aoleang 2020, KU appealed to the citizens to remain in doors and directed respective village councils to implement the order in their villages.

Following the nationwide lockdown, the union has restricted movement indefinitely and said that all routes entering into the district would be actively manned. However, it said that movement of essential commodities, medical emergencies would be exempted.

Meanwhile, KU has directed Mon district chamber of commerce to strictly monitor price of essential commodities and avoid any artificial inflation. Any shops found violating the directive, the union warned would face stern action even to the extent of cancellation of trade licence.

KU has also warned against any form of demand/extortion and directed all Naga political leaders and individuals to go back to their respective villages or be confined inside their home/camp. KU has “strictly prohibited” any form of disturbances/extortion within Konyak soil.
