Konyaks celebrate Lao-Ong Mo festival

Konyak Union Kohima (KUK) today celebrated Lao-Ong Mo festival at Naga Heritage Village Kisama.

MLA C.L. John in an address as special guest said during forefathers time Lao-ong mo festival was celebrated with much pomp and gaiety as a mark of winding up of all harvest activities.  He reminded that after Christianity Konyaks stopped celebrating the festival but after more than 50 years of Christianity, Konyaks recalled the festival and in the year 2016 Konyaks started celebrating Lao-ong Mo festival. MLA encouraged the Konyak community to continue preserving their tradition and cultures.

Retd director School Education, B. Tingshem shared the significance of Lao-Ong Mo as a mark of abundant harvest and thanksgiving. He said Lao-Ong Mo is preceded by performing various rituals, adherence certain strict norms, code and belief.      

Cultural presentations were given by Mon Circle Union Kohima, Chen Area Union Kohima, Wakching Area Union Kohima, KNSK Kohima Unit and blowing of trumpet from Honka.

The function was chaired by KUK general secretary Khongjah, invocation prayer by Z. Mankup, welcome address was delivered by KUK president Dr. Phola,  while vote of thanks was proposed by Lao-Ong Mo committee 2019 convenor M. Yashei.
