Several leaders of Konyak Union (KU) had reportedly met the impeached chairman of NSCN (K) Khango Konyak recently to urge the latter to come to negotiating table for peaceful solution.

Although Konyak Union was reluctant to officially confirm the report, some of the executive members, on condition of anonymity admitted that some of the leaders had met the ousted leader across the border.

Without divulging much detail, KU said the leaders reportedly appealed to Khango to join the negotiating table for peaceful solution.

One of the KU leaders, who recently met Khango, also said that the civil society groups of both Myanmar and India will be meeting the ousted leader again, on a peace mission. However, he did not give any details of the proposed meeting.

KU leaders were optimistic that Khango would listen to the wishes and aspirations of the people.

It may be recalled that the Myanmar-based NSCN (K) on August 17 impeached Khango Konyak as the NSCN (K) chairman,  and elected the founding chairman, late Shangwang Shangyung Khaplang’s nephew, Yung Aung as the new ‘acting chairman’ of the organization.

According a TOI report, NSCN (K) in a statement said it had unanimously resolved to impeach Khango “to save the party from further breakdown and confusion.”

NSCN (K) also gave Khango a safe passage to go wherever he likes without any harm, the report stated.
