KVK, Kiphire organises training and valedictory programme

Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Kiphire organised   training on improved agricultural practices for livelihood generation and valedictory programme.

A press release by KVK Kiphire stated that the training was organised in collaboration with district administration, MSK and DRDA, Kiphire on February 12, at Hopongyu memorial hall, Kiphire.

Resource persons of the programme were AC, NSRLM Kiphire, Sepila Sangtam, agriculture inspector, DAO, Kiphire Thungjano Tsopoe, and DHO Kiphire, Senti Longchar. 

Speaking on the topic “value addition on fruits and vegetables”, Sepila Sangtam informed that processed products such as wine, candy and jam can be made out of fruits and vegetables at home scale which would help in generating income.

Importance and usage of vermicomposting was highlighted by Thungjano Tsopoe where she deliberated on various steps and methods involved in theproduction of vermicompost.

Topic on Naga King chilly cultivation was delivered by Senti Longchar, where detailed cultivation methods from nursery management to management in the main field were discussed. 

Meanwhile, a short valedictory programme was held after the technical session with EAC, Kiphire, Imlijungla Lemtur as special guest was held.

She encouraged the farmers to be committed to whatever activities they undertook. She also spoke on women empowerment besides highlighting activities of MSK, which she said was solely for working women for security livelihood.

A brief report was presented by senior scientist and head (i/c) and training co-ordinator, Dr. N Khumdemo Ezung where he informed that a total of 120 SHGs were covered benefitting 600 farm women through the programme. 

He added that a total of 120 knapsack sprayer, 600 packet of yellow sticky trap, 600 number of maize sheller, 600 numbers of garden rake and 600 numbers of biopesticide were distributed to all the participating farmers from five different blocks of Kiphire such as Kiphire, Longmatra, Pungro, Sitimi and Khonsa where four training programmes were conducted in each block.

He expressed gratitude to the District Administration for sponsoring the program, NSRLM team, Kiphire for the strong co-ordination with the SHG’s, NSRLM, DHO and DAO, Kiphire for deputing the resource persons making the program a grand success.

During the programme, inputs such as garden rake, maize sheller, yellow sticky trap, biopesticide and knapsack sprayer were distributed to all the participating farmers.

Altogether 60 farm women from 12 SHGs participated in the training programme.

Earlier, the programme was chaired by SMS DAMU, KVK Kiphire, Temjenna Jamir and vote of thanks was delivered by HEA, DHO Kiphire, Seroba Sangtam.
