KVK Kiphire training for women farmers

KVK, Kiphire in collaboration with district administration, MSK and DRDA, Kiphire, conducted training-cum-input distribution programme on “Empowering farm women through improved agricultural practices for livelihood generation” at Longmatra and Sitimi blocks from December 7 to 11. 

A press release by KVK Kiphire stated that, resource person AC, Longmatra NSRLM, Sepila Sangtam spoke on value addition in agri and horticulture crops where surplus produce could be further processed and additional income earned instead of it being wasted. Emphasising on value addition, she focussed on ginger, gooseberry and wild apple abundantly available locally. She further laid emphasis on importance of value addition and encouraged women farmers to take up as to increase their income and livelihood. 

SMS, DAMU KVK, Kiphire, Temjenna Jamir, delivered technical lecture on integrated pest and disease management in important crops. Awareness on the new Farm Act 2020 was accented to the participants, attended by area co-ordinators of respective blocks where they took initiatives in mobilizing SHGs in various villages.  A total of 120 women farmers were selected from 24 SHGs from each block covering total of 10 villages from Longmatra block and 14 villages from Sitimi block.
