KVKs undertake tree plantation

Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Nagaland University (NU) Lumami and KVK Phek conducted tree plantation programmes on September 17.

KVK NU Lumami: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Nagaland University (NU) conducted mass plantation drive-cum-farmers’ meeting as part of ongoing Swachhta Hi Seva at Zaphumi village on September 17. 

A press release from KVK, NU, Lumami senior scientist and head, Dr. Rakesh Kumar Chaurasia stated that, prof. N.S. Jamir, vice-chancellor incharge, NU, Lumami graced the occasion. In his speech, he encouraged the farmers to be hard working and adopt location specific technologies suitable for them so that it would help in creating income generating sources and reduce unemployment problems. He also encouraged the village council to adopt resolution on village area cleanliness, preservation of forest around the village areas and minimum plantation of trees by every household of the village.

Dr. Rakesh Kumar Chaurasia, highlighted the purpose and need for organising the programme and urged the farmers to make the village as “litchi village”. Dr. Kundan Kumar, SMS (Agril. Extension) elaborated on the launching of the “Swachhta Hi Seva”. 

Vote of thanks for the programme was delivered by Dr. Visakho Shunyu, ACTO (Agronomy). The first session of the programme concluded with planting of litchi saplings and free distribution of seedless litchi saplings to the each and every household of the Zhaphumi village. Farmers’ meeting was conducted in the second session, where scientists of KVK and farmers discussed about the problems and solutions of the farming system in the village. Altogether 40 farmers attended the programme. 

KVK Phek: KVK Phek organised tree plantation programme under Swachhta Hi Sewa on September 17. 

A press release from KVK Phek stated that, Dr. T. Esther Lonkumer, senior scientist and head i/c, KVK Phek briefed about the importance of tree plantation in the environment. Special guest Vevo K Dzudo, president PFU expressed happiness for conducting such a programme and urged the participants to take up mass tree plantation programme in the village.

A brief presentation on the title “Plant trees and save the earth” was delivered by Dr. Rinku Bharali, ACTO, KVK Phek. Tree saplings were distributed and there was also planting of trees in the campus. 

Earlier, welcome note was given by Liza Barua Bharali, ACTO, KVK Phek and vote of thanks by Dr Hannah K Asangla, ACTO KVK-Phek. A total of 77 participants including farmers and office staff attended the programme.
