Landslide snaps Kohima-Dimapur road

Barely a day after landslide the area along NH-29, between Sechü-Zubza road, was re-opened, a major portion of road measuring 45 meter in length had sunk near Old KMC dumping zone following incessant rainfall since October 6.

This was the third subsidence that occurred in the same area.

Talking to Nagaland Post, SDO (NH) Akumdong Walling who was at the site said that the road started to sink since October 6, where around seven feet of subsidence occurred. The road condition worsened on Tuesday after another 12 feet of road had sunk.

Walling said the department has been carrying out the road restoration a work on war-footing, so that at least one way traffic could be allowed by October 9 evening. Traffic advisory: Light vehicles have been advised to take the Jotsoma by-pass while heavy vehicles have been directed towards Peducha via Tsiesema Village. JE Mhasilhusie Nagi said two poclain have been deployed to clear the debris, as restoration work was still underway till Tuesday night.
