LFA, DAPCU organise HIV& AIDS advocacy for church leaders

Legislators’ Forum on AIDS (LFA) and District AIDS Programme Control Unit Mon (DAPCU) organised HIV and AIDS Church advocacy in partnership with Konyak Baptist Baumeinok Bangjum (KBBB) Youth Ministry on September 5 at Mon town. 

Resource person of the programme, Dr. Yanang K, MO – District Hospital Mon shared on the topic “Basic of HIV and Treatment” and said that though there was no medicine for cure, positive people can live healthily by taking and adhering to Anti Retroviral Therapy (ART). He encouraged everyone to come forward and do the testing which is free in all Integrated Counselling and Testing Centre (ICTC). District Programme Officer, DAPCU, LongyimTzudir also spoke in the programme. He expressed gratitude to KBBB for realizing the importance of participation in addressing the issues of HIV among the church members and partnering with DAPCU for conducting Church advocacy on HIV and AIDS. 

He said church has been considered as one of the most influential institution and channel to educate, discipline and communicate to the community. Therefore, he said church should be capacitated and sensitized on HIV issues so that message will be spread to larger sections of the population and can play an important role in reversing the epidemic. He also encouraged the church leaders to be well equipped on the issue of HIV and AIDS and requested them to include HIV topics even in their sermons. 

Earlier, the programme began with key note address by Wangchah K, youth secretary, KBBB and a member of District AIDS Prevention and Control Committee. 

Invocation prayer was offered by Youth Director, Wanching Baptist Church. The programme ended with an interactive session, where the participants expressed their willingness to carry out Church advocacy on HIV and AIDS in their respective churches. Apart from the programme, IEC materials and Guidebook on HIV and AIDS for Church leaders were distributed to all the participants. This was stated in a press release issued by state consultant LFA Nagaland, Dr. Vinito L. Chishi.
