Livingstone Foundation International (LFI) Dimapur, organized a bicycle rally on pollution control under the theme of “Our environment, our concern” on June 6.

The rally started from the school main gate at Thahekhu Block-5 and after covering City Tower junction and Nyamo Lotha Road culminated at Dhobinala junction.

Around 57 cyclists from Grades-VI to XII students took part.

A press release from LFI Dimapur information desk stated that, bicycle rally was flagged off by Jatila Jamir, deputy commissioner of Police (Traffic), Zone-I, Dimapur.

Speaking on the occasion, as special guest, Jatila was optimistic about the future of bicycles playing a major role in boosting people’s health and in curbing pollution to a great extent.

Chairman of LFI, Dr. Andrew Ahoto highlighted the serious and detrimental effects of pollution which has resulted in global warming which in turn has resulted in climate change, degeneration of health and other such effects on a global scale.

He also expressed hope that more people including school and college students start using bicycles to commute as it would contribute in lowering the harmful effects of global warming due to vehicular pollution and also improving their overall health.

However, he expressed that the general public need to be disciplined while driving on the streets and follow the traffic rules strictly.

He was optimistic that this bicycle rally will inculcate a positive mindset among the general public towards the menace of environmental pollution and the physical and mental health benefits of people.
