Library inaugurated at Central Jail Dimapur

Sarvahitety NGO, in collaboration with KAL Group, Dimapur based law firm, and Sophia Foundation, inaugurated a library at Central Jail, Dimapur on October 22.  A press release from Sarvahitety NGO, stated that Heather Lynn, who had travelled from Michigan, USA, contributed books which she brought with her. Co founder, Sarvahitey NGO, Prem Prakash, stated that main purpose of the library was to work on three ‘R’s, reformation, rehabilitation and reintegration of inmates. 

Alemla of Sophia Foundation, shared her experience of conducting recital sessions in Dimapur District Jail and further planning to replicate the same model here. Esther K Aye from KAL Group, also suggested screening of some movies with help of laptop and projector for the inmates.  Inaugural speech was delivered by senior jailor, central Jail, Buming Khiam, while jailor, Central Jail, Dr. Oben, delivered welcome address. The inaugural programme was chaired by, associate of KAL Group, Lashika Aye. 

Prison already has a mini library, as to which, 600 books were added. This is the 206th library opened under Project Paper Bridge in India, 26th in the state.
