Directorate of Legal Metrology and Consumer Protection (LMCP) and Nagaland Voluntary Consumers’ Organisation (NVCO) held a joint meeting at the office of controller LMCP and also secretary of Food & Civil Supplies on November 6 at Kohima.

A press release by NVCO press and media cell stated that, the meeting was held to promote and protect the rights of the consumers with the new Consumer Protection Act 2019 and also to protect the consumers from exploitation in various areas. President of NVCO and advocate Kezhokhoto Savi said that awareness was still lacking and has to reach out to all places especially villages. He further requested the state government especially the nodal department to be more effective and forceful. Savi also highlighted the new Act, where he said that one of the major development of the new Act was the establishment of central consumer protection authority to regulate matters. Savi requested the department to immediately take up the various issues with the state government.
Controller LMCP, Honje Konyak chaired the programme and in his closing remark said that the department would sent a proposal to frame the Consumer Protection Rules as per the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 and also request the state government particularly the committee to put up a president to run the State Commission at the earliest. He also said that the department would send a proposal to the state government to allot government vacant building which would be suitable for the state commission for the time being.  Controller also suggested having similar meeting from time to time so that the NVCO could share its experiences and valuable knowledge in this field to enable the government to do better in promoting and protecting the rights of consumers in the state.
