Passengers stranded at Dimapur railway station due to complete shutdown all over the country, have been facing harassment and physical abuse by local miscreants since the day of lockdown started.

When this reporter spoke with some of the stranded passengers on March 29, it was learned that the passengers were mistreated and sometimes physically abused by some local miscreants. They also claimed they were always the last to get food or water whenever NGOs or concerned citizens provided for them.

A lady passenger (on conditions of anonymity) from Guwahati, disclosed that she was very much pleased by the humanitarian act carried out by certain denizens of Dimapur. However, she lamented that some miscreants stopped people from rendering help to stranded passengers and daily wagers by harassing and mentally abusing them.

Another passenger stated that the miscreants would just come and check their pockets for money, leaving them completely defenceless due to man power.

The helpless and stranded passengers’ appealed law enforcing agencies to ensure such anti-social elements do not make matters worse in this situation, and also stated that such acts hampered the image of the state.
