Lower Naga Bazaar residents construct road

Correspondent KOHIMA, APR 1 (NPN) | Publish Date: 4/1/2019 12:10:17 PM IST

Residents of Lower Naga Bazaar, Kohima began construction of their colony road to make it motorable, on April 1. The construction is funded fully by contributions from residents of the colony.

Speaking to this Correspondent at the spot, Lower Nagabazar GB, Khriengulie Rio said that the cement road construction, along a stretch of around 200 metres, started from March 30 with the participation of a hundred colony residents to continue till it is completed.

He said this road is the only road for Lower Naga Bazaar, Lower Pezielietsie Colony and others, and it is used by more than 500 families.

It has become a very important colony road and the construction became something that could not be ignored anymore.

Khriengulie added that vehicles of residents are usually parked along nearby congested road sides because they cannot not use this road, and it creates heavy traffic jams affecting the highway that leads to Tinpati junction and New Secretariat via Naga hospital.

He said once this road is constructed, it would help ease the traffic jams to some extent.

Khriengulie also appealed to other colonies to consider taking up similar initiatives instead of depending on the government for everything.

Residents of the colony also expressed discontent that the government had failed to respond although they had approached the concerned department to fix up the road. Consequently, residents contributed towards the construction with some contributing up to ten and twenty thousand rupees.

They appealed to the government to extend its help towards this initiative because it is not a viable project for private individuals alone.
