M’laya CM appeals to citizens to donate to COVID-19 relief fund

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Wednesday appealed to citizens to donate to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund for COVID-19 to deal with the crisis due to the corona virus outbreak.
Till date, not a single case of COVID-19 has been detected in Meghalaya.
“With the rampant outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country and number of lives being affected by the virus , we appeal for donation,” Sangma said.
The CM said the State government is stepping up by providing the necessary aid, but in this time of crisis, and appealed to responsible citizens to do their bit.
Meanwhile, the Marwari community of Shillong has formed a committee of all Marwari owned fair price shops and is in consultation with the Deputy Commissioner Supply, Shillong and other arms of the government to provide free rations to the poor.
On the other hand, the state government has constituted an advisory committee comprising of medical experts to seek suggestions from the latter on how to handle the situation arising out of the COVID-19 outbreak. Rao said the government has taken all necessary measures to tackle COVID-19 and various defence establishments have offered their help to the government.
Conrad appeals to citizens to act responsibly
Conrad Sangma appealed to the citizens to act responsibly following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement of 21 days lockdown in the country. 
“We should take utmost care of ourselves and our family members, so that we do not come in contact with the virus and are able to break the transmission chain,” Sangma said in his address to the citizens via Facebook live. 
He informed that fresh notification with regards to lockdown will be issued by the State Government. 
 Sangma also informed that more than 3000 people have registered through online platform (meghalayaonline.gov.in/covid) of their travel history and the government is closely monitoring the situation. 
“It is a difficult situation for everybody and if people are united with the government, the goal to defeat coronavirus will be a reality,” the Chief Minister said. 
“The government is working out on logistics particularly on rations and people should not panic. We will ensure that essential supplies are made available to the people,” he informed. 
Stressing that all steps are being taken to ensure supply of essential commodities to all, particularly the weaker section of the society, Sangma informed that government is in consultation with business houses and entrepreneurs to start home delivery of essential items. 
“Nobody had thought such a situation will arise. However, this has happened. Necessity is the mother of all inventions. Let us be positive and work together to overcome this situation. I am sure that we will be together in this battle and unite to keep the virus at bay and break the transmission chain,” the Chief Minister reiterated. 
Repeatedly urging people to take the matter seriously and stay indoors, Sangma informed the citizens that the government is taking all measures to fight coronavirus and different isolation wards are being designated in hospitals across the State. He also thanked the selfless services of the health care and paramedical personnels, municipality and others, working in this situation.
