M’laya not to extend lockdown

The Conrad Sangma-led government in Meghalaya on Wednesday decided not to extend the 3-day lockdown in Shillong agglomeration which ends on Wednesday midnight, even as the government reiterated its appeal to the public “not to be complacent”.

However, random testing with Rapid Antigen kit will be aggressively conducted in 71 clusters across the State.

 “After taking into consideration all inputs from district administrations as well as the Health and Family Welfare department we have decided not to extend the lockdown,” Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong told reporters after the review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Wednesday.

“We appeal to the people that nobody should be complacent but remain vigilant and adhere to the laid health protocols and SOPs,” he iterated. Director Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman War informed that during the three days lockdown health workers have conducted and identified 1,118 such persons have been identified from containment areas itself.

He said that the containment areas will remain until contact tracing has completed.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Alexander Laloo Hek informed that five fresh positive cases were detected in the State in the past 24 hours and during the same period 13 patients recovered.

Out of the five new cases,  Hek said East Khasi Hills district recorded two cases both from the armed forces, two Border Security Force (BSF)  troopers  in West Garo Hills and one case was detected in Ri-Bhoi. With these new detections, Meghalaya has recorded 572 active cases out of which 246 are from the BSF, civilians 291 and armed forces 35.

207 persons have recovered from the viral infection and five others succumbed to the virus.
