M’laya Speaker to hold meeting with govt, opposition

Meghalaya Assembly Speaker, Metbah Lyngdoh will hold a meeting with the State government and opposition Congress party to discuss matter related to the war against COVID-19 on Saturday.

“I have summoned for a meeting at MLA Hostel, Conference tomorrow to discuss on the COVID-19 pandemic in the State,” Lyngdoh said.

He said the meeting will be attended by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, Leader of Opposition Dr. Mukul Sangma besides Chief Secretary M.S.Rao among others.

Chief Minister Sangma told reporters said that the idea of holding meeting is to bring forth ideas, suggestions and inputs to tackle COVID-19 in the State.

Meghalaya, which was free from COVID-19 until April 13, has now recorded 12 active COVID-19 cases out of which one has died to the virulent virus .

Sangma said that out of 1,130 sample tested so far, 1,048 have yielded negative results and the outcome of 70 samples are awaited. He added that 70 more swab samples have been sent for testing on Friday.

Informing that health authorities have traced 181 primary contacts and 3,003 secondary contacts of the positive COVID-19 patients, the Chief Minister said, “all primary contacts under home quarantine are being visited by a team of doctors in their residence and being monitored very closely.”

“There are 48 teams formed by the Deputy Commissioners office in East Khasi Hills to carry out home visits for all secondary contacts,” he said, adding that all the other individuals are under home quarantined for self isolation for 14 days and are to report to the authorities if any symptoms appear.

Altogether, 5,503 persons are in home quarantine, while 300 others are under institutional quarantine, the Chief Minister said.

Sangma said that line listing is being conducted by the ASHAs in all the districts.
