Major terror strike foiled in Tinsukia

A joint team of Indian Army and Tinsukia police averted an attempt by insurgents to trigger a blast in Tinsukia dist by apprehending a cadre of ULFA(I) from whom they recovered a large quantity of explosives on October 8.

A press release by PRO (Defence) stated that regular  inputs were received from various intelligence agencies regarding plans of ULFA(I) cadres to carry out bomb blasts in Upper Assam and attack security forces with an aim to revive their diminishing influence. 

After sustained and relentless efforts, a breakthrough was achieved on October 8 when the Joint team of the Indian Army and Tinsukia Police based on specific intelligence launched multiple mobile vehicle check points in the general area of Chikrajan in Tinsukia. This resulted in the apprehension of SS sergeant Sabdo Asom @ Jonki Bora of ULFA (I).The joint team also recovered electronic detonators, remote control and 10 kg of TNT explosive during the operation.

The release stated that the operation has averted a major threat and saved many innocent lives. It said Indian Army has been carrying out relentless operations in Upper Assam against the ULFA(I), adding that the recovery of  explosives and the apprehension of Senior insurgents, has struck a major blow to the proscribed group in the region.
