Sergio Aguero registered two goals and an assist as Manchester City thumped Brighton 4-0 in the Premier League on Saturday.

The Citizens were ahead as early as the second minute when David Silva picked out an un-marked Kevind de Bruyne who slotted home from close range.

Brighton did manage to carve out an opening on 25 minutes as Montoya got the down flank before picking out Solly March, who sent his strike over the crossbar.

There was a bit of bad news for Pep Guardiola’s side as defender Aymeric Laporte was stretchered off after a collision. He was replaced by Fernandinho.

The change did not disrupt City’s play as the lead was doubled just before the break as a neat passing move involving Mahrez and De Bruyne ended with Sergio Aguero rifling the ball beyond Ryan.

It was more of the same for the home side in the second half, with Aguero completing his brace with a superb curling effort into the top corner from the edge of the box on 56 minutes.

Guardiola introduced Bernardo Silva for David Silva in the 77th minute and the former’s impact was instant as he collected a reverse pass from Aguero before drilling the ball into the bottom corner.

Brighton pushed for a late consolation, but the City defence remained resolute as the hosts claimed three points and a clean sheet.

Meanwhile, Chelsea threw away a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with newly promoted Sheffield United, leaving manager Frank Lampard still looking for his first home win.

Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham got his name on the score-sheet at Stamford Bridge for the first time with two first-half goals.

Abraham slotted home in the 19th minute when Sheffield keeper Dean Henderson failed to gather the ball under pressure from Christian Pulisic. Abraham doubled Chelsea’s lead in the 43rd minute when he capitalised on a defensive mix-up.

But the visitors pulled a goal back immediately after half-time when Callum Robinson converted a cross from Enda Stevens and equalised in the 89th minute when Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma netted past Kepa Arrizabalaga.
