Manipur and Meghalaya ban import of poultry

Manipur and Meghalaya governments have banned import of poultry and its products in view of the spread of Avian Influenza in some states of the country, official sources said Tuesday.     

An order banning poultry products from other states was issued yesterday (Monday) by commissioner of veterinary and animal husbandry service of the Manipur government. In Meghalaya, a notification issued by Principal Secretary Animal Husbandry and Veterinary, G.H.P.Raju stated that in view of outbreak of the Avian influenza (Bird Flu) in some parts of the country, State Governor is pleased to impose ban on import of poultry birds, eggs and unprocessed poultry meat into the State through the western border of Assam in order to prevent the spread of the avian flu to the State with immediate effect. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma held a meeting on Tuesday to discuss State’s preparedness and action plan.
