Addressing a function on Credit Linkage Programme at the auditorium of MSFDS, Palace Compound, the chief minister, urged the people of the state to not be over apprehensive about the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB), 2016.

He said that taking note of the people’s apprehension after the passing of the Bill by the Lok Sabha, the state government had sought a written assurance from the Centre that no one would be given Indian citizenship without state government’s recommendation. He said that the Prime Minister had also assured to the people of Assam and North East that their rights will not be hurt after the passage of the CAB.

Apart from it, the state government has also been pressing the Centre to give Presidential assent to the Manipur People Bill, 2018 to ensure protection of indigenous peoples of the state, he said.
