Manipur Congress on Thursday celebrated the party’s victory in three states in the recently held State Assembly elections.

Speaking at the grand celebration held in Imphal’s Congress Bhavan, former Manipur chief minister O Ibobi Singh termed the defeat of the BJP in all the five states as fall of the “saffron regime”.

Claiming that the results were significant, the former three time chief minister said that the results have paved the path for Congress to return to power again.

“Congress and its allies will be coming to power in the upcoming parliamentary elections,” he said.

Singh said that people have now realized the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre was fooling people by making false promises during its four and half year rule at the Centre.

“You can’t fool the people all the time by making false promises,” he said while alleging that parties in the NDA, particularly BJP has always been fooling the people by making false promises.

“The outcomes of the just concluded election are the result of the false promises they made,” he said and added that in a democracy, people are supreme and there was no place for the parties fooling people.

He said that the NDA government under the leadership of Narendra Modi has converted the then Look East Policy into Act East Policy and Union ministers were visiting the Northeast states to showcase the Central government’s concern for the region, but there was no change in the development pace of the region.

“What have been done for the development of the Northeast region except making publicity in the media,” the opposition leader said.

Many leaders of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) including its president TN Haokip attended the celebration.
