Civil society organisations have decided to go ahead with the proposed 24-hour general strike against Centre’s alleged intention to extend Article 371 (A) to Manipur even as state government decided to conduct Assembly session on August 10 to discuss the burning issues of the state including the Naga peace accord.

The 24-hour general strike jointly called by United Committee Manipur, All Manipur United Club Organization and Committee of Civil Society Kangleipak would commence on the intervening night of July 31, 2018 and August 1, 2018.
“The strike-call was not against any particular community or tribe. It is against divide and rule policy of India government,” a leader of the one of the CSOs said.
He alleged that government at the Centre was trying to create disharmony among the different communities living in the region. Meanwhile, various CSOs have announced their supports to the general strike.
