Manipur mudslide: Efforts on to retrieve two missing bodies

Bodies of the two children who were feared death after buried by debris of massive landslides in Manipur’s Tamenglong district were yet to be retrieved.
Officials said rescue workers were putting effort to retrieve the bodies of the two missing children, a nine-month-old baby boy and a three-year-old girl.
 Torrential rains triggered landslides in Tamenglong district claimed nine lives and destroyed atleast 13 houses.
Bodies of seven victims including the five siblings had already recovered by the rescue workers comprising state fire fighters, personnel of state disaster management authority, police, Manipur Rifles and paramilitary forces.
Efforts were on to retrieve the bodies of two children, said vice-chairman Adim Panmei of the state disaster management authority, who is currently camping at Tamenglong district headquarters and supervising the operation said.
He said State Disaster Rescue Force (SDRF) joined the operation on Thursday morning.
“The operation is in full swing and we will continue the operation until the missing bodies are retrieved,” he said.
Chief minister had already assured ex-gratia of Rs five lakh each to the families of victims and other relief to the affected families.
Meanwhile, state tribal affairs and hills minister N Kayisii today visited Thonglang in Kangpokpi district to take stock of the situation.
Upon his arrival at the village, the minister conducted a spot inspection of the damage caused by the landslide. 
He extended immediate relief materials and assured to provide CGI sheets to the affected households. 
Meanwhile, state Governor Dr Najma Heptulla has conveyed heartfelt condolence to the members of the bereaved families.
