Manipur police destroy ganja cultivation

Personnel of Narcotics and Affairs Border (NAB) division of Manipur police in a joint drive with Imphal East district police destroyed illegal ganja cultivation in parts of Imphal East district on Saturday. The joint team destroyed ganja plants found cultivating at Kongba Uchekon, Nandeibam Leikai, Uchekon Takhok and Bamon Kampu areas under Irilbung police station of Imphal East district.

They destroyed over four acres of ganja cultivation in these areas. The approximate yield of the cultivated area would be around 600 kg of ganja, an official said.

Two cases were also registered at Irilbung police station to investigate into the illicit cultivation of ganja in the areas, he added.

The drive against ganja cultivation in the valley district was at a time while the NAB team has been hectically engaging in the destruction of illicit cultivation of poppy in the hill areas in the last around one month.
