Marathon race on plastic pollution

To create awareness on harmful effect of plastic pollution, D’ Block Panchayat Kohima  organized a marathon race under the theme “Be the solution to plastic pollution” with the participation of young and old people on Tuesday.

The race was flagged off by ex- Kohima municipal council councillor, Neilaselie Kire near the colony panchayat hall. 

Altogether 49 persons participated in the race held in three categories for men and women.

In senior category (men), Benjamin Patton bagged the first position followed by Dhruba Mandal and Thrilichu Sangtam in 2nd and 3rd positions. 

In junior category (men), Santosh Nembang, Akash Dey and Thejangulie Vizo secured the first, second and third positions. 

In sub-junior category (men) , Sorito Yim, Keneisevor Vizo and Kunal Chetri finished in first, second and third positions.

In senior category (women), Thejangunuo Sachü and Chikamla bagged the first and second positions and, for junior (girls) Thejaneinuo Linyu, Arti and Sneha secured the first, second and third positions.

In sub-junior (girls) Angali, Mhasinuo and Anania bagged the first, second and third positions. Chopho Konyak (7 years) was the youngest participants.

Meanwhile, secretary D’ block Panchayat, Gilbert Patton said plastic pollution not only affect human but also to land, rivers and wildlife and the best way to address plastic pollution was by changing mindsets, behavioural changes and educating public through various awareness programme. 

Chairman D’ block panchayat, Kevisatuo Yhome said organizing such programme would create awareness and impact among the colony residents to reduce or avoid using plastic.  

The programme was attended by Panchayat leaders, youth leaders, colony residents and others.
