Market shed inaugurated in Beisumpuikam

A roadside market shed supported by North East Rural Livelihood Project under ministry of DoNER, government of India and World Bank, was inaugurated on August 28 at Kamdi Bazaar Beisumpuikam Village by DRDA project director, Peren, Keyirangding Hegui. The total cost of the shed project is 10,02,000 rupees with project support of 9,53,200 rupees and community contribution of 48,000 rupees.

A press release by North East Rural Livelihood Project, District Project Management Unit (Peren), Ruuvilie Kotsu said that Keyirangding Hegui, who was the special guest at the inaugural function, congratulated Beisumpuikam Village Council and Self Help Groups Village Federation for their success. He said the most fertile land in Nagaland belongs to Peren district and it has the potential to generate income for households through organic cultivation practices.

Keyirangding Hegui also discouraged the use of chemicals fertilizers and insecticides. He said that the DRDA under its department programs have a plans to develop village enterprise. He also promised to set up three units at Beisumpuikam village which will benefit the whole cluster of villages in that area by with -- a soya bean and mustard oil extraction unit, maize/chilli grinding unit and Naga chilly and other spices drying unit (Solar Drier).

NERLP district project manager, Ruuvilie Kotsu, in his address said that the inauguration of the roadside market shed was an example of a unit where difficult things could be achieved and also of community ownership where with the same budget and community contribution, a ring well was also contracted. He added that out of five roadside market sheds under NERLP project, Beisumpuikam Federation was the first to complete construction. Kotsu said the completion was a milestone and reaping benefits from maintenance and management of the asset was crucial.
