Medical college likely to be functional by 2020

Health and Family Welfare (H&FW) minister, S Pangnyu Phom, Friday said that the collective effort of the community and the state government was needed to make the first medical college in the state functional most probably by 2020. 

He said this at the dedication service site for commencement of construction on of Nagaland Medical College at Phriebagei, Kohima.

The college will be constructed on a 50.20 acre of land at Phriebagei Kohima village.

In this regard, he extended appreciation to the citizens of Kohima village for their cooperation, understanding and kindness towards the state government and the department. He also appealed to the citizens to continue extend cooperation so that the dream of making the first medical college in the state would be accomplished. 

Also speaking at the programme, advisor Rural Development, Dr. Nicky Kire, urged the health minister to take the construction of the college on priority. 

Advisor IPR, SCERT and Village Guards, Toshi Wungtung, said that it was the realization of the long awaited dream of the people of Nagaland.

Kohima village council (KVC) vice chairman, Khriezothie Chielie, expressed gratitude and appealed to the state government and the department to take pro-active role in making the college operational at the earliest. He also gave assurance on behalf of the villagers to extend their full support for the progress and expansion of the college in every possible way and to ensure that no obstacle arose in the process.

The occasion was also graced by minster of Soil and Conservation, Women and Child Development, Kashiho Sangtam; advisor for Fire & Emergency Services, SIRD & Relief & Rehabilitation, Phowang Kongyak;  advisor, Law & Justice, Border Affairs and Treasuries & Accounts, Dr. Longriniken; advisor, Irrigation & Flood Control, Namri Nchang and advisor DUDA, Bongkhao.

The programme was also attended by regional director MH&FW, Guwahati, Dr. P Gogoi. 

The dedicatory prayer was given by Khedi Baptist Church Kohima pastor Rev. Viwelie Khezhie.
