Meeting discusses trekkers getting lost in Dzukoü Valley

A joint-coordination meeting was held with different departments and stakeholders regarding Dzukoü Valley and activities the affect the valley, at Jakhama SDO(C)’s office on July 13.
According to DIPR, the meeting was held to discuss the management of Dzukoü and provide regulatory guidelines so that tourists/trekkers do not get lost. During the meeting three agendas were adopted -- tourists will be able to access Southern Dzukoü only through the Jakhama and Viswema routes, blanket ban on hunting activities and a decision was taken to set up Dzukoü Management Committee, which will formulate a blueprint with further consultations with all the stakeholders.
The meeting also discussed fresh trail mapping of routes along with stakeholders, identification of spots with phone signals and the mandatory use of guides by tourists from outside the state etc. Concerns relating to the maintenance and improvement of infrastructure and services available were also taken up with the department of Tourism.
The meeting was convened by the SDO (C), Jakhama, Alemyapang Longchar and was attended by DDMO Kohima, officials from Department of Tourism, Department of Forest, EAC Kezocha, SAPO, SAYO and other stakeholders.
