S. Pangnyu Phom, minister of Health and Family Welfare encouraged the officials to work sincerely towards quality healthcare delivery on February 11. 

A press release from DH&FW controlling and licensing authority, additional drugs controller, W. H. Patton stated that, Pangnyu said this at the review meeting held along with secretary to the government of Nagaland and principal secretary of DH&FW at the residence of the minister. 

Pangnyu deliberated with the officials on the activities and functioning of the Nagaland State Drugs Control Authority. 

He directed the drugs control officials for strict implementation of Drugs and Cosmetic Act and Rules in the interest and safety of public health. He added that any deviation of the law will not be tolerated henceforth, while directing the officials to take stern action against any licensed pharmacies running without fulfilling mandatory requirement as per law, for which state government will give full support. 

Minister also directed the officials to submit total revenue generated annually through the sale of drugs/medicine by licensed medicine dealer both in retail and wholesale to the government. 

Pangnyu further stressed that all departmental promotion will be based on merit-cum-seniority as per state government standing order. 

Meanwhile, a meeting with food safety Nagaland team was also held with minister, secretary, principle director and senior officials of DH&FW on February 11 at minister’s official residence in Kohima. 

Minister took a report on the status of the departments’ action against formalin laced fish with facts and figures and the amount of formalin being detected and types/species of fish tested. 

He directed the food safety team to continue the analytical testing of formalin in fish and keep a constant surveillance of all food commodities with a stress on pork qualitative analysis especially at the entry points like Dimapur, Amguri, Mariani (Jorhart) and Tizit.

Minister was apprised of setting up of food testing laboratory in Dimapur as demanded by the public as Dimapur  is the commercial hub of Nagaland and state revenue generated through Food Safety licensing and registration till date is Rs 1.33 crores  with a generation of Rs 26.5 lakhs for the year 2018-19. A constant vigil is to be monitored at Khuzama check gate against influx of misbranded and sub-standard food items especially, Myanmar food products.
