Meghwal inspects projects in Manipur

A day after inspecting some severely affected areas by flood in Imphal and Thoubal districts, union minister of state for water resources Arjun Ram Meghwal on Thursday inspected the Dollaithabi Barrage Project and Thoubal Multipurpose Project.
On his way to Mapithel Dam of Thoubal Multipurpose Project, the union minister was intercepted by a large number of villagers affected by the mega dam, who staged protest on the road leading to the dam.
After hearing their grievances, Meghwal assured to address their problems, particularly rehabilitation at the earliest.
The union minister also inspected the progress of the Dollaithabi Barrage Project and the Thoubal Multipurpose Project in Thoubal district bordering Ukhrul and Imphal East districts.  The villagers demanded that rehabilitation programme should be completed before commissioning the mega project.
At Thoubal Multipurpose Project, Meghwal said that the Centre was committed to complete the projects taken up in the NE region including Manipur at the earliest possible period. 
He said his visit was to learn and identify the reasons behind delay in completion of the projects, issue of pending payments and the problems faced in the matter of rehabilitation and resettlement.
He expressed that these projects will fulfill the multipurpose purposes such as irrigation, drinking water supply, flood regulation and power supply advantages. 
He also added that the projects will help boost tourism sector and help in providing livelihood. Development of such projects to nearby villagers can also help in creating an economic zone, he added. 
State water resources minister Letpao Haokip and top officials of the state water resources department accompanied Meghwal during the inspection.
