Memorial monolith of Rengma elder unveiled

Monolith in memory of late Asubi Kemp was unveiled at Tesophenyu lower on May 4, chaired by chairman of Tesophenyu village council (TVC) N. R. Magh. 

A press release from TVC chairman, N. R. Magh stated that, the monolith was unveiled by senior citizen C.T. Rengma, who presented brief profile of late Asubi Kemp. He recalled that late Asubi was a great leader during the disturbance period-between Indian Army and Naga Army on Naga political issue around 1960s. Under his initiative, commandant of 16th Durga Regiment posted to Tseminyu (Ramani) awarded and declared Tesophenyu a “Loyal Village” and because of that the village escaped from grouping, torture, killing, burning of village & granaries etc.

Nillo Rengma, former minister presented brief history of late Asubi’s activities and involvement in administration particularly in Rengma areas. Nillo said that although late Asubi was not educated, he was a good administrator and was posted and placed in several responsible posts as political assistant of Tseminyu; chairman Rengma Tribal Council (RTC) and member of RTC for many years.

Sevitso Seyie of Touphima village also gave short speech on the good relationship between Rengma and Angami build due to tireless initiative of a person like late Asubi and late Lhousa-o etc.

Mezasen Jemu, his contemporary also presented short speech. Folk song was presented by village elders and word of gratitude by Jwenbu Kemp. Earlier invocation was offered by Rev. Wachulo Jemu.
