An earthquake of slight intensity jolted Nagaland and other North East states Thursday, but there were no immediate reports of casualties or damage to property.

The 5.2 magnitude earthquake, which struck at around 1:15 p.m. at a depth of 50 km, was felt in Nagaland and some parts of Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur and adjoining areas of the region.
“The quake, measuring 5.2 on the Richter Scale, occurred at 1:15 p.m. and had its epicentre in Manipur’s Senapati district,” a seismologist of the seismological centre, said.
India’s north-eastern states are considered by seismologists as the sixth major earthquake-prone belt in the world.
