Mizoram thrashed Meghalaya 6-0, while Sikkim defeated Assam by a solitary goal on the second day of the North East Dr. T Ao Trophy at IG Stadium, Kohima on Tuesday.

In the first match, Don Tshering Lepcha penalty proved to be the winning goal as the team held on to the lead to snatch victory over Assam. 

The first half saw domination in the midfield area but both team failed to break the deadlock. Assam forward Vishal K. Sunar was denied twice by Sikkim keeper Urgen Pintso Sherpa in the second half.

However in the 74th minute, a bad tackle from Assam captain Maneswar Mushahary brought down Ashish Chettri inside the penalty area and Lepcha coolly converted the spotkick to give Sikkim the lead. 

Assam team was denied a goal by woodwork in the 88th minute as nervy Sikkim held on to take three points. 

Meanwhile, Mizoram outclassed Meghalaya by 6-0 in the second match of the day. 

Mizoram fired three quick goals in 28th minutes to take control of the game. Within the introduction of the match, Lalchungnunga Chhangte scored for Mizoram in the two minute. Vanlalthlamuana long ball found Chhangte inside the area as he fired home the lead. Chhangte did set-up the second goal for F. Lalrinpuia to find the back of the net in the 24th minute. 

Skipper Lalrinchhana Tochhong headed the third goal from Chhangte crossing in the 28th minute to make it 3-0 for Mizoram team. 

Meghalaya team failed to find the net despite their best effort. 

In the second half Mizoram team scored three more goals in a span of six minutes. F. Lalzungpuia scored his second goal in the 86th minute, M.S Dawngliana found the net in the 90th minute and Malsawmfela added the sixth goal in the 92nd minute to take three points. 

Up next, Sikkim will play against Meghalaya while Mizoram will take on Assam on January 23.
