Mizoram reports first Covid-19 case; second in NE

Mizoram has reported its first case of Covid-19 after a 50-year old, who came back from Amsterdam in the Netherlands, tested positive for the infection.

Addressing the media Wednesday, state health minister R Lalthangliana said the government is taking all measures to contain the spread and there was no need for panic. The patient has been kept in isolation at Zoram Medical College, he added. National Health Mission director Dr. Eric Zomawia said the patient was in stable condition.

The man had returned from Amsterdam via Doha- Delhi-Guwahati and Aizawl on March 16. He had himself self isolated as soon as he reached home and was in contact with doctors through phone. His sample was taken on March 22 and result was out on March 24. His wife and two children have also been kept in isolation, officials said

This is the second case in the region after a 23-year-old woman, who came back from the UK to Manipur, tested positive.
