Manipur police on Sunday called upon the people not to support the proposed state-wide anti-CAA general strike call given by Left Parties in Manipur on December 19.

Left Parties in Manipur on Saturday announced that they were going to impose a dawn to dusk (12-hour) anti-CAB general strike in the entire state on December 19. Asking shops and business establishments to function and transporters not to stop their services, the police warned that non-compliance of the order may attract cancellation of their license and legal action against them. Addressing a news conference, state police IGP Clay Khongsai reminded of  an order of the Supreme Court of India banning bandh, blockade and other forms of strike that disturbed public.

The state government has also a standing order to arrest and take legal action against bandh supporters, he said at the press conference in which SPs of Imphal West and Imphal East were among officials of the police department present.

At the same time, the proposed general strike will affect people of the states who are stranded in the neighbouring violent hit Assam and are returning after special arrangement made by the state government, he said.
