Model Christian College organizes ‘Phoenix 2019’

 Model Christian College (MCC) organized its first intercollegiate event, “Phoenix 2019”, a talent show under the theme “Eclectic, Effervescent, Effulgent”, on August 3 at the college auditorium.

The contest kicked off with the presentation of the song “Jerusalem” by Ropfuvinuo Khezhie of St. Joseph’s College, Jakhama followed by dances, mimicry, piano recital and others.

In the competition, Arenchenla Walling of Modern College was declared the winner of Phoenix 2019, who also walked home with a cash prize of Rs. 15,000/- and a certificate. Phyantsuo N Lotha was declared the first runner-up with a cash prize of Rs. 10,000/- and Hrudalou of Baptist College won the third place and a cash prize of Rs. 5000/-. Consolation prizes were given to five participants from St. Joseph’s College, Japfü Christian College, Sazolie College, Model Christian College, and Don Bosco College.

Prior to the announcement of results, judges were asked to give remark on the competition and its competitors. Judge, Mele Pucho, who is the director and proprietor of Symphony Academy of Music, remarked that artists are like salesmen where crowd response, creativity and originality need to be taken into account. Judge, Mengu Suokhrie, actor and singer, challenged the performers to be confident and unabashed on stage, saying they have to get into the character. Judge, Dr. Kilemsungla who is a former member of UPSC and former principal of NCTE, said that every talent comes from the Lord and clarity of words is important.

The event was hosted by assistant professor, department of English, Thethem Hangsing and assistant professor department of Geography, Kedozolie Nagi, invocation by managing director MCC, S P Francis, welcome address by principal of the college, Dr. Luke Rymbai, special number by Mochoyia of BSc 3rd semester, MCC followed by presentation of the Mascot “PHOENIX”, vote of thanks by assistant professor department of English, Vizono Khesoh, who is also the event coordinator. Altogether 13 colleges participated in the competition.
