Modern College organises foreign language learning

Modern College (MC) Kohima introduced Mandarin (Chinese) as a foreign language on August 3, as part of its foreign language skills initiative, one of the first of its kind in the state to create global awareness and provide global perspectives and opportunities for the students.

A press release issued by MCK principal, Dr. H. P. Singh stated that, Hongfei Xing, director of English Practice Center, University of Science and Technology of China, has been invited as the foreign language faculty to teach Mandarin to the students.  The Mandarin course has been introduced as a course for two periods on a daily basis.  “Pleco”, a Chinese dictionary App has been made available to the students to aid and enhance their learning of Mandarin. Cooking lessons have also been incorporated into the curriculum and students are also taught on paper-cutting and handicraft skills.

It must be noted that Hongfei Xing has a master’s degree in cross cultural communication and has teaching experiences in the USA apart from her home country.
