Mokokchung DC&ARO issues election related notifications

DC & Assistant Returning Officer, Mokokchung, Rajesh Soundararajan, has issued a notification stating that in compliance with relevant laws, any form of campaignin is prohibited for 48 hours just before the hour fixed for conclusion of polls ie. 4 pm on April 11.This ban, therefore, comes into effect from April 9, 4 pm onwards.

According to DIPR, no person shall: i) Convene, hold or attend, join or address any public meeting or procession in connection with the election, ii) Display to the public any election matter by means of cinematography, television or other similar apparatus, iii) Propagate any election matter to the public by holding, or by arranging the holding of any musical concert or theatrical performance or any other entertainment or amusement with a view to attracting members of the public.

Any person who contravenes the above provisions shall be punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend to two years, or with fine, or with both.

All the candidates and political parties have been therefore directed to strictly comply with the provisions of law. Strict action shall be initiated against any individual or group or organization found in violation.

Soundararajan has also informed all concerned that commissioning and preparation of EVMs & VVPATs for the conduct of the forthcoming General Election to the Lok Sabha 2019 and by-election to 26 Aonglenden A/C shall be carried out from April 2 to 4 at Town Hall, Mokokchung. The preparation of the machines will commence at 9 am every day.

All contesting candidates and their political parties have been requested to be present or send their representatives to witness the process, without fail. Sufficient numbers of representatives may also be sent to actively participate in the mock polls. No electronic gadgets including mobile phones will be allowed inside the hall.
