The mortal remains Archbishop of Shillong Archdiocese, Rev. Dominic Jala, who was killed in a tragic car crash at San Francisco in US on October 10, is likely to reach Shillong by Tuesday or Wednesday, former Union Minister Vincent Pala said on Wednesday.
Pala rushed to San Francisco to coordinate with the Indian Consular office in order to ensure smooth transfer of the mortal remains from California to Shillong.
“The Colusa County Coroner completed their autopsy and the body has been transferred to McNary-Moore Funeral Home. The Indian Consulate’s office in San Francisco is in touch with the Funeral Home and the body of our Archbishop will be ready to be released to be airlifted to India once all the official consular documents have been completed,” a Church official in Shillong said.
On the other hand, Pala said “if everything went as per plan, the mortal remains of Archbishop Dominic Jala may be transported on Saturday from USA to reach Guwahati by Tuesday or Wednesday.”
“I know many people are anxiously waiting for the news about the body of the Archbishop but nothing has been finalised as of now. We hope to get the dead body released today (Wednesday) from the government, and handed it over to the agency which will prepare for it to be sent to Guwahati directly, ” Pala added.
