Munda graces NU Silver Jubilee

Union Minister of Tribal Affairs, Arjun Munda, graced the Nagaland University Silver Jubilee celebration as the chief guest on Friday. The programme held at I Ihoshe Kinimi Hall, NU Lumami, on the theme “For a Vibrant Future” was also graced by Chargé d’Affaires, Royal Thai Embassy, New Delhi, Thirapth Mongkolnavin, as the guest of honour and Minister for Higher & Technical Education and Tribal Affairs, Temjen Imna Along, as a special guest.

Speaking on the occasion, the Union Minister Arjun Munda announced a proposal for ‘the centre of excellence for Tribal Affairs’ at the Nagaland University. 

Acknowledging the glorious celebration of the Silver Jubilee of NU, he said that the university should exist to instil academic skills for the development of the nation with reasons and hopes. Munda urged the teaching faculty be a facilitator, counsellor and parent to produce globally relevant graduates. The chief guest also emphasised on the freedom of expression and speech as enshrined in the fundamental rights for a vibrant India.

Earlier, delivering his speech as guest of honour, Thirapth Mongkolnavin stated that Thailand has placed particular importance and interest on cooperation with the North-eastern region ranging from road connectivity, forest resource management, biodiversity, to people to people exchange and others, especially due to its geo-strategic location. The gateway to ASEAN begins from the region, which is central to India’s Act East policy, he added. Minister for Higher & Technical Education and Traibal Affairs, Temjen Imna Along also spoke at the programme.

Earlier, the Jubilee souvenir and jubilee plaque was unveiled by the chief guest while the NU vice chancellor Prof. Pardeshi Lal gave his address.
