DIMAPUR, MAY 18 (NPN) | Publish Date: 5/18/2019 12:10:35 PM IST

Maintaining that Eastern Konyak people were suffering due to heavy conflict between Tatmadaw (Myanmar military) and NSCN (K), the Eastern Konyak Union (Myanmar) has appealed to the NSCN (K) and Tatmadaw to maintain restraint and avoid gun fight in public places.

In a press release, Eastern Konyak Union president SA Khotai and general secretary K Honwang alleged that Tatmadaw launch heavy firing every year in populated areas, burn down houses, kill livestock and even damage granaries accusing the villagers of supporting NSCN (K). It claimed that on May 16, 2019, the Myanmar government sent its army in search of NSCN. It stated that troops of Myanmar military numbering 200 carrying highly sophisticated weapons launched heavy firing from 1pm to 6pm in the forest between Pesao and Chen Hoyat village. Even on May 17, 2019, the union said Tatmadaw engaged in firing from 9am 10am. It said that since no one was allowed to visit the spot, the details about casualty could not be ascertained. The union said innocent villagers of Chen Hoyat were living in fear as they cannot move from village even to bring basic necessity.

While in Eastern part, the union said Tatmadaw was continuously firing, the Indian army in the Western part have imposed curfew leaving the innocent villagers in a quandary.  Due to armed conflict, the union said people have been deprived of basic human needs be it education, social and communication. It therefore appealed to NSCN (K), Indian army and Tatmadaw to maintain restrain.
